Use this checklist the day before and the day of your order selector job interview to make sure you’re walking in prepared for a warehouse or order selector role.
Before the interview
-
Confirm the interview time, location, and parking details
-
Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early
-
Read the job posting carefully so you understand the environment (case-pick vs. each-pick, ambient vs. freezer)
-
Be honest with yourself about the physical demands of the role
What to wear
-
Clean, practical work clothes
-
Closed-toe shoes (steel-toe not required unless specified)
-
No suit or formal business wear
-
Dress like someone who understands the job and is ready to work
What to be ready to talk about
-
Your work history, especially jobs involving physical or repetitive work
-
Your reliability: attendance, punctuality, and consistency
-
Any experience with warehouses, order picking, pallet building, or material handling
-
Willingness to learn new processes and follow site-specific rules
If you have warehouse experience, frame it thoughtfully:
“I’ve done order selecting before, and I know every operation is different. I’m comfortable learning how this facility does things.”
During the interview
-
Be on time, polite, and direct
-
Listen carefully before answering questions
-
Ask practical questions about shifts, expectations, and training
-
Show interest in the role without overselling yourself
How to talk about experience (or lack of it)
-
If you have experience, explain what you did, not how others should do things
-
If you don’t, highlight other physically demanding or repetitive work you’ve done
-
Emphasize safety, accuracy, and willingness to improve
What employers are really checking
-
Will you show up every day?
-
Can you handle physical, repetitive work?
-
Will you work safely and follow instructions?
-
Are you coachable and realistic about the job?
