
Hyster has earned two industry awards for its Atlas automated lift truck portal, a platform designed to make lift truck automation easier to deploy and adjust without requiring specialized software engineering expertise.
The Hyster Atlas platform received a GOOD DESIGN award in the robotics category and was also named AGV Solution of the Year in the 2026 SupplyTech Breakthrough Awards.
Introduced in September 2025, Hyster Atlas combines automated lift trucks with a user-oriented software portal intended to simplify one of the more difficult parts of warehouse automation: getting a system mapped, configured and operating in an existing facility. Hyster says the system can enable automated lift truck implementation in as little as one day.
Rather than requiring users to code routes or rely on a software engineer for routine changes, the Atlas portal allows a facility to be mapped by manually driving the truck through the desired travel path. Waypoints are automatically created as the truck moves, establishing the routes the automated vehicle will later follow.
If a route needs to change, users can reposition waypoints through a drag-and-drop interface. That flexibility could be particularly useful in manufacturing and warehouse environments where layouts, production flows or staging areas are regularly adjusted.
“With the demands placed on material handling operations, the last thing teams need is technology that’s complex and cumbersome to use,” said Noah Salmonson, Product Manager, Automation, Hyster. “The Hyster automated lift truck portal was created to amplify what teams can accomplish, not leave them buried in complicated software.”
He said the two awards recognize both the simplicity of the Atlas portal and the operational value of making automation easier for facility teams to manage.
Automated Tow Tractor Leads Atlas Rollout
The first vehicle offered through the Atlas platform is an automated tow tractor designed for manufacturing and warehouse material movement. It can work with a variety of cart configurations and is available with automated hitching and unhitching to reduce the amount of manual intervention required.
Automated wireless charging provides another level of autonomy. When charging is required, the truck can travel to a charging station and dock without requiring an operator or supervisor to manage the process.
Hyster has also taken a modular approach to the automation hardware. Automation components are installed separately on top of standard Hyster lift trucks rather than being deeply integrated into the truck’s core systems. According to the company, that design allows automation components to be updated or adjusted without interfering with other truck systems and helps Hyster dealers provide conventional service support.
The approach reflects a broader shift in lift truck automation toward systems that can be deployed incrementally rather than requiring companies to undertake a large, highly engineered automation project from the outset.
Rental Model Lowers Financial Barrier
Hyster is also addressing another common hurdle for companies considering automation: capital cost.
Atlas is offered through a rental model that bundles the truck, automation technology and associated costs into a monthly fee. The model allows companies to gain experience with automated material handling in an operating facility without committing to a substantial upfront investment.
That could be especially attractive for companies that see potential applications for automated lift trucks but remain uncertain about utilization levels, operating savings or how readily automation will fit existing workflows.
Automated lift trucks and mobile robots have become increasingly capable, but implementation complexity remains an important consideration for many potential users. Platforms such as Atlas are attempting to move some of that capability out of the hands of automation specialists and into the day-to-day operating environment of warehouse and manufacturing teams.
