Today’s Monday briefing covers developments since Friday, including the weekend. A forklift fire inside a New York manufacturing facility provides the strongest safety story, while UN Forklift is looking to expand its UK dealer network and a new industry review points to the continuing electrification of heavy-duty lift trucks. We also have a fresh warehouse-management Job Pick.

Safety | Forklift Fire Contained Inside New York Manufacturing Facility
A propane-powered forklift caught fire Saturday night at New Energy Works in Farmington, New York, but the incident was contained to the truck and nobody was injured. Investigators attributed the fire to a faulty electrical system in the forklift, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office account reported by FingerLakes1.
The building’s sprinkler system activated, while smoke spread through portions of the facility and sprinkler water caused additional damage. The incident offers a useful reminder that forklift fire risk does not end when equipment is parked and that effective building fire protection can become the last line of defence when equipment fails after hours.
Fleet Management | Jungheinrich and Kuehne+Nagel Sign 5,000-Truck Framework Agreement
Jungheinrich and Kuehne+Nagel have signed an international framework agreement covering around 5,000 industrial trucks across several European countries. The multi-year agreement combines equipment supply with rental, service and centralized digital fleet management.
A particularly interesting part of the deal is the fleet-management model. Jungheinrich has developed a Kuehne+Nagel-specific version of its Rental Fleet Management system, called KN-RFM+, designed to combine a core fleet with rental equipment that can be scaled as requirements change. The system is intended to provide greater transparency and more consistent fleet management across individual sites and national borders.
The equipment will include energy-efficient Jungheinrich trucks using lithium-ion technology. Jungheinrich already works as a fleet partner for Kuehne+Nagel in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, with the new framework providing a basis for expanding the relationship into additional countries.

JCB has named George Bamford joint chairman alongside his father, Lord Bamford, marking the first change at the top of the family-owned equipment manufacturer in more than 50 years.
The leadership change comes as JCB prepares to bring substantial new North American manufacturing capacity online. The facility will manufacture Loadall telescopic handlers and aerial access equipment for the North American market.
JCB is also investing £100 million in the transformation of its Staffordshire headquarters. The company reported 2025 sales of 113,498 machines and turnover of £5.7 billion.

Worth Reading | Heavy-Duty Forklifts Continue Their Electric Shift
A recent Port Strategy review of the heavy-duty forklift sector identifies electrification, digitalization and customization as three of the defining equipment trends. The review includes new high-capacity electric equipment such as Hyster’s J10-18XD and reinforces a trend increasingly visible across new product launches.
The significance isn’t that diesel has suddenly disappeared. Rather, electric equipment is becoming a realistic consideration in heavier outdoor applications where internal combustion once faced little competition.
