EnerSys®, a worldwide authority on stored energy solutions for industrial uses, has obtained full integration approval for its NexSys® Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) battery technology across all Hyster-Yale Group equipment that employs Hyster Power Cellect™ or Yale Power Key™.
This green light from the Hyster-Yale Group makes EnerSys the exclusive provider capable of offering both TPPL and Lithium-ion (Li-ion) technologies – battery systems that require minimal maintenance and are compatible with Hyster Power Cellect and Yale Power Key.
Ben Ruela, General Manager – OEM Sales, Motive Power Global at EnerSys, stated, “Both EnerSys and Hyster-Yale Group continually strive to enhance customer operations through technology innovation. The power flexibility that Hyster Power Cellect and Yale Power Key offer, together with EnerSys’ wide spectrum of battery technologies, now delivers Fleet Managers more alternatives to boost efficiency and decrease total cost of ownership, all while improving the operator experience. Having our TPPL and lithium-ion technologies aligned with Hyster® and Yale® machinery provides our shared customers the chance to ‘right size’ the power solutions their operation requires, effectively negating battery maintenance. Every operation is unique and only EnerSys allows fleets to truly customize their equipment power with a wide range of choices.”
Even though electric material handling machinery was traditionally designed for use with flooded lead acid batteries, the incorporation of advanced TPPL and Li-ion technologies yields operational benefits in three main areas:
Productivity: The communication between Hyster and Yale machinery and EnerSys batteries allows battery data to be relayed to operators via the Battery Discharge Indicator (BDI) installed at the factory on the lift truck. This enhances charging practices for improved productivity and prolongs equipment and battery lifespan. If the optional Hyster Tracker™ or Yale Vision™ telemetry is fitted, managers can easily monitor battery status and charging patterns for TPPL and Li-ion via their respective online portals.
Sustainability: By switching from liquid propane (LP) to electric-powered Hyster and Yale machinery, EnerSys batteries can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 14 tons per truck*. In addition, TPPL and Li-ion technologies remove the need for watering – saving up to 660 gallons of water annually per battery compared to traditional flooded lead acid, depending on usage.
Safety: Full integration also allows direct communication between the battery and the equipment, ensuring features and warnings related to battery state-of-charge that help to safeguard both the equipment and the operators. In working with EnerSys, fleets also get to leverage power study data combined with proprietary EnSite™ modelling software to identify the most suitable power system for their specific applications.
With the synergy of EnerSys’ innovative products and capabilities and the flexibility of Hyster Power Cellect and Yale Power Key, Operations and Fleet Managers now have an enriched array of options for driving safe, sustainable and highly productive fleet operations, with zero compromises.
