Membership Reflects Growing Role of Lithium Technology in Industrial Power Markets

Battery Council International (BCI) has added ENEROC USA as its newest member, a move that highlights the changing composition of the North American battery industry. According to the association, ENEROC is the first battery manufacturer focused exclusively on lithium technology to join the organization in its 102-year history.
The development reflects broader shifts taking place across the battery sector as lithium-powered products gain traction in industrial, transportation, and energy storage applications. While BCI has historically been associated with lead battery manufacturers and recyclers, the organization has increasingly expanded its focus to include emerging battery chemistries and technologies.
Founded in 1924, BCI serves as one of North America’s leading battery industry trade associations, representing manufacturers, recyclers, suppliers, distributors, consultants, and other stakeholders involved in energy storage markets.
Industry Evolution
The addition of ENEROC comes as lithium battery adoption continues to grow across multiple sectors, including material handling equipment, warehouse operations, and industrial vehicles.
According to BCI, lithium battery shipments among member companies increased 31% year-over-year in 2025 despite softer overall battery volumes across North America. The association suggested that growth reflects lithium technology’s transition from an emerging option to an increasingly established segment of the industrial battery market.
Roger Miksad, president and executive director of BCI, said the organization’s membership is evolving alongside developments within the industry.
“In over a century, we have never had a battery manufacturer join whose business was built entirely on lithium technology. BCI exists to represent the full breadth of the battery industry, and welcoming a lithium-only manufacturer strengthens our ability to represent the battery industry, advance safety standards, and support America’s energy security,” Miksad said.
Expanding the Industry Conversation
While lithium batteries continue to gain market share in some applications, lead batteries remain widely used across automotive, stationary power, telecommunications, and industrial sectors. Industry observers note that different battery chemistries continue to serve different operational requirements based on factors such as cost, performance, charging characteristics, and operating environments.
BCI officials indicated that bringing additional lithium-focused companies into the organization can help facilitate industry discussions around safety, sustainability, domestic manufacturing, workforce development, and energy security.
For ENEROC, membership provides an opportunity to participate in those conversations while increasing its visibility within the North American battery market.
“ENEROC’s joining BCI is a sign that lithium technology has matured enough to take its place within the broader conversation of power solutions driving electrification and energy transition,” said Sandro Pagliarulo, CEO of ENEROC USA.
Growing Presence in North America
ENEROC was founded in 2018 and is headquartered in Hangzhou, China. The company focuses on lithium battery systems for electric industrial vehicles and material handling equipment.
The company launched its U.S. operations in March 2025 and supplies motive power batteries for forklifts and off-highway electric vehicles. ENEROC’s products are supported by battery technology from CATL, one of the world’s largest lithium battery manufacturers.
