Case Study
- Write for working professionals — not academics or casual consumers. Assume your reader knows what a counterbalance forklift is, but explain niche acronyms and emerging tech terms.
- Be direct and practical. Lead with the most useful or newsworthy information. Avoid burying the point.
- Maintain objectivity in news and analysis. Reserve opinion for clearly labeled opinion pieces.
- Avoid hype and vendor puffery. Do not parrot press release language without context or independent verification.
- Do not use first-person (“I think,” “in my opinion”) outside of opinion pieces.
- Strike a balance between technical credibility and plain-language readability.
- Headlines should be specific and informative — not clickbait. Good: “Toyota Launches New Diesel Pneumatic Forklift Line.” Bad: “You Won’t Believe What Toyota Just Did.”
- Use American spelling (e.g., analyze not analyse, center not centre).
- Keep a solutions-oriented lens. Where problems are described, explore what’s being done to address them.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Acronyms | Unpack on first use, even common ones. E.g., “autonomous mobile robot (AMR),” “warehouse management system (WMS).” |
| Numbers | Spell out one through nine; use numerals for 10 and above. |
| People | Full name and title on first reference. E.g., “Shawn Donahue, Director of Automation at The Raymond Corporation.” |
| Quotes | Double quotation marks for direct quotes. Single quotes for quotes within quotes. |
| Punctuation | Place the full stop inside the closing quotation mark. |
| Dates | Month-day-year format. E.g., March 14, 2026. |
| Hyperlinks | Embed links in the text — do not list sources at the bottom of the article. |
| Structure | Every article needs a headline, a 2–3 sentence introduction, and subheadings for pieces over 600 words. |
Accuracy is non-negotiable. Errors damage our credibility with an audience of industry professionals who will spot mistakes quickly.
Before submitting, verify each of the following:
- All names, titles, company names, and model numbers
- All statistics, figures, and data points — and their sources
- That all embedded hyperlinks work and point to the correct destination
- That quoted material is attributed correctly
- That regulatory references (OSHA standards, ANSI codes, etc.) are current
- Use primary sources wherever possible: official press releases, manufacturer websites, regulatory agency publications, and peer-reviewed studies.
- Secondary sources (trade publications, reputable industry media) are acceptable for context and verification.
- Do not cite Wikipedia as a source.
- Expert quotes strengthen analysis and feature articles — always attributed with full name and title.
- When referencing market data or forecasts, name the research firm and date of the report.
- Submit high-resolution images (minimum 1,000px on the longest edge).
- Only submit images you have the legal right to use: original photos, licensed stock, manufacturer-supplied press images (with permission), or Creative Commons images with proper attribution.
- Do not use watermarked, paywalled, or copyrighted images without explicit permission.
- Include a caption and photo credit with every image.
- Avoid generic stock photos. Real equipment, real facilities, and real people are preferred.
