Canadian manufacturers are reporting mounting supply-chain delays, while a new look at DP World’s Centerm terminal puts numbers behind the impact of port modernization in Vancouver. Also today, LogisticsBC has two interesting facility tours coming up, and FedEx Canada is recruiting an operations manager in Abbotsford.

MANUFACTURING | Supply-Chain Delays Mount for Canadian Manufacturers
Canadian manufacturing continued to expand in September, but growth slowed and supply-chain pressures increased, according to fresh S&P Global purchasing managers’ data released October 1.
The Canada Manufacturing PMI fell to 51.5 from 53.0 in August, its lowest reading in six months. A reading above 50 still indicates expansion, but new orders weakened and confidence in future output fell to its lowest level since December 2025.
For supply-chain operators, one of the more notable findings was a further deterioration in supplier delivery performance. Delivery delays were the most widespread since August 2022, with manufacturers reporting customs and border difficulties, maritime shipping disruptions and product shortages. Input-cost inflation also reached its highest level since mid-2022.
PORTS & AUTOMATION | Centerm Case Study Highlights Capacity and Workforce Growth
DP World has released a new look at its Centerm terminal in Vancouver, drawing on KPMG research into technology, training and employment at B.C.’s West Coast ports.
The October 1 release highlights the results of the decade-long Centerm Expansion Project, which combined infrastructure improvements with expanded on-terminal rail capacity, automated truck gates, upgraded planning systems and remote semi-automated equipment.
According to the KPMG analysis, Centerm’s annual container-handling capacity increased 65%, from 900,000 to 1.5 million TEUs, while its physical footprint grew by only 15%. Waterfront payroll hours at Centerm increased 59%, from 835,000 in 2019 to 1.328 million in 2025.
The underlying KPMG research was released earlier in September, so this is not a new terminal expansion announcement. The October 1 Centerm case study does, however, provide a useful look at how infrastructure investment, automation and workforce development have evolved together at one of Canada’s major container terminals.
UPCOMING | LogisticsBC Offers Inside Look at Surrey and Delta Operations
LogisticsBC has two October facility tours coming up that should be of interest to local supply-chain professionals.
The organization will visit the Skechers distribution operation in Surrey on October 16 for a look at its warehousing, distribution and logistics activities. A second tour on October 23 will take members inside Turning Point Brewery in Delta, with a focus on manufacturing, packaging, logistics and supply-chain processes.
