Geek+, a global leader in autonomous mobile robotics (AMR), has implemented its Goods-To-Person solutions at Rhenus Logistics’ Swiss warehouse. The solution is being deployed at a multi-client toy wholesaler in Switzerland and serves as the first replication of the existing Rhenus Logistics and Geek+ project in Hong Kong.
The P800 AMR system is a self-driving shelf system for goods-to-person. The AMR robot selects the shelf with the demanded products and brings it to the pick workstations where employees can retrieve the items. The initial installation in Basel consists of 13,320 shelf spaces. Waldmeier AG and Max Bersinger AG, two leading toy wholesalers, are the first two customers who will benefit from the brand-new AMR installation, with the transfer of their products already in full swing.
Working with Rhenus on the Swiss project following their successful Hong Kong collaboration shows how strong the trust is between the two companies. Jan Jongbloets, Vice President Global Key Accounts & Partners at Geek+ Europe, said that their Goods-To-Person solutions are the key to a modern warehouse. Additionally, replicating the original installation demonstrates how easy automation can be with the right partner.
Rhenus Logistics’ COO in Switzerland, Philipp Bittner, said that it was easy for them to follow suit after receiving positive feedback from their colleagues in Hong Kong. The AMRs not only optimize their processes but also help them reduce energy consumption.
Alexander Quercher, Project Manager at Rhenus Logistics, stated that all challenges in the project were efficiently handled, thanks to good teamwork and fast communication.
Rhenus and Geek+ plan to further strengthen their partnership by embarking on additional projects aimed at automating warehouses worldwide in the upcoming years. The next scheduled venture is slated to take place in Switzerland in 2024.
The Rhenus Group is a logistics specialist with operations worldwide and an annual turnover of EUR 8.6 billion. 39,000 employees work at 1,120 business sites and develop innovative logistics solutions.
